Gear Elevating | Geared Synchronized Workpiece Elevation and Rotation

The Geared Elevation design enhances operator ergonomics and safety by integrating adjustable elevation capabilities into the Headstock and Tailstock positioners. This system retains all advantages of standard fixed-height models while allowing precise height adjustment to optimize working conditions for heavy-duty fabrication operations.

A gear rack cut into the vertical posts, combined with multiple interlocked drive pinions, provides the highest degree of mechanical safety in the industry. Each unit features NEMA 12 electrical enclosures, ground blocks, and tapered roller bearings for dependable operation. Sealed drive units with lifetime lubrication ensure years of maintenance-free performance, while custom-engineered elevation heights and configurations are available for specialized applications.

Synchronization and Control

In Koike Aronson Ransome systems, the Headstock and Tailstock axes are electronically synchronized to eliminate workpiece or fixture skewing. Both axes are powered by encoded motors controlled by drives equipped with internal PLC functionality. Encoder signals from both axes are transmitted to the Tailstock drive, which receives closed-loop position feedback from the Tailstock encoder while following the reference signal generated by the Headstock encoder.

Operator commands are issued via a low-voltage control pendant or an optional supervisory programmable control system. As the Headstock moves, the Tailstock automatically follows step-for-step, maintaining perfect alignment through encoder feedback. Should any fault or deviation be detected, the system immediately halts to prevent damage or misalignment of the workpiece or fixture.
